The Sub-Saharan region of Africa has just 10 percent of the world's population, yet is home to more than 60 percent of all those living with HIV/AIDS (25.8 million people!). Eighty percent of children living with HIV/AIDS come from this area. At least one in five adults in Sub-Saharan Africa is infected with HIV. AIDS creates more orphans in this region than the communities, which are already struggling to meet their basic needs, can cope with.
